Isn’t it amazing how fast time flies? Today the new year and the new decade begin.
Where were you Jan 1, 2019, or Jan 1, 2010? Or how about Jan 1, 2000? Remember Y2K?
It’s easy to gloss over where we’ve been. Day after day we go about our activities and forget to notice the shifts and completions. When I reflect on the years that have passed, I can see the paths, the detours, the friendships, and even the losses.
Step back. I invite you to use today to step back. Take a moment to review your calendar, your journal, your morning pages – wherever you keep track of your life. Make note of your completions.
Stepping back is about savoring and celebrating. It’s stepping back to review the path you’ve walked. Leaving my beloved Colorado was a loss and a blessing that I’m still processing. It was a shift in my very consciousness.
When we pause to recollect and record our lives, we honor our creative spirit in a more direct way. Our path is a reflection of our soul.
Savor your wins. When you feel your list is complete, light a candle and bask in the glow of accomplishment. You’re a different person now because you finished what you finished. Think about who you were when you began and who you became when you were done.
A win is more than big decisions, like changing your job or moving to another state. When we step back and recognize how we’ve changed and how the efforts we made to create something new changed us, it becomes clear that the smallest efforts count.
You win by showing up. You win by sticking it out to the final step. You win by growing your capacity. You are surrounded by wins – now is the time to savor them.
Celebrate your wins. I love to create rewards! You already know how much I love my gold stars to mark completions. That hit of dopamine has carried me through many tedious tasks. And when the task is complete, it’s time for a more substantial reward.
One of my favorites is a hot soak in a bath by candlelight. You may prefer a nice dinner out with friends, or to treat yourself to that cool new pair of shoes. Give your efforts the celebrations they deserve and remember that it is the reward you deserve for completing that task.
Share your wins. Your victory deserves to be witnessed. Others in your life share your celebration. Those you ran to for advice, those who supported you in small ways and those who gave you encouragement, your win is also their win.
And there are others who hold you up as a role model. Often, you don’t even see them, but they see you. They are the ones who like your posts on Facebook and brag about you behind your back.
You give them hope, and your celebration is their celebration. By not honoring your accomplishments, you deprive your supporters of their day in the sun. A celebration is your way of saying “Thanks! I couldn’t have done it without you.”
I’m so very grateful for your continued support. Just knowing my words have a positive impact is a celebration for me. I can’t do it without you, and I’m honored to support your journey into your own flavor of creativity.
2020 is a fresh start in so many ways. I wish for you new beginnings in creativity, prosperity, abundance and joy!
